The Denture-Making Process
After a tooth is extracted or lost, the socket starts to fill in with bone, and the gum tissue heals and changes shape. This process takes several weeks until the gums and bone become stable.
After this time, a conventional denture is made, preferably about 8 to 12 weeks after the teeth were extracted or lost.
Impressions
The denture-making process starts by taking a series of impressions or moulds of the oral tissues that will support the denture.
A dental laboratory will use these impressions to make models of the patient’s mouth.
Denture-making
Your dentist will then start building the dentures on these models and transferring them to your mouth at each step to ensure proper fit, establish a proper bite, and ensure that the appearance and aesthetics of the denture are achieved.
Re-visiting your dentist
The patient will generally need to be seen by your dentist once a week for about 4 to 5 weeks until the denture is completed.

Preparing for Denture Implants

1. What are traditional dentures?
Traditional dentures are what you usually think of when you think about dentures. They’re removable and are typically held in the mouth with adhesive.
Dentures are taken out at night so that they can be soaked and cleaned properly. They don’t give you back full bite function and are at risk of slipping or falling out.
2. What are implant-supported dentures?
In contrast, implant-supported dentures are fixed dentures that aren’t removable. Instead of being held in place with adhesive, a number of dental implants support the denture.
