Dental Health Week 2021: Keep Your Smile for Life | Warrnambool Dental

by | Aug 1, 2021 | Dental Health Week 2021

In an aim to educate Australians about the importance of maintaining good oral health, the Australian Dental Association has created Dental Health Week.

In 2021, this will take place from 2nd to 8th of August. This year’s key message is “Keep Your Smile for Life”.

Although we all like to think we have good oral health, statistics don’t lie.

  • 75% of adults rarely or never floss or clean between their teeth.
  • 1 out of 5 adults brushes only once per day.
  • 39% of parents report their children drink 2-5 softdrinks per week.
  • 2 out of 3 adults usually visit their dentist for a problem than a dental check-up.
  • 47% of adults consume too much added sugar.

#1 Brush teeth at least twice a day with fluoride-containing toothpaste for two minutes each time

While you can’t get rid of all the decay-causing bacteria, it is possible to control them.

Proper toothbrushing helps prevent tooth decay and gum disease by reducing the amount of bacteria and plaque around the teeth and gums.

#2 Clean between your teeth every day with floss or interdental brushes

Proper flossing removes plaque build-up and food particles in places where a toothbrush can’t easily reach. Since plaque build-up can lead to tooth decay and gum disease, flossing is highly recommended.

#3 Maintain a healthy, balanced diet and limit added sugar consumption

Eating nutrient-rich foods promotes healthy teeth and gums. A balanced eating plan that includes fruits, vegetables, protein-rich foods, grains, and dairy provides essential nutrients for optimum oral and overall health.

#4 Visit your Warrnambool dentist for check-ups and preventive dental care

Regular dental check-ups help protect not just your oral health but also your overall health. For instance, signs and symptoms of some systemic diseases might show up in the mouth first.

The examination also gives your dentist a chance to provide tips on caring for your teeth and to detect oral health problems early on — when they’re most treatable.

Keep Your Smile for Life!

A healthier mouth means lesser time in the dentist chair — and lesser unnecessary expense. It also means less chance of developing health problems throughout your body.

Avoid putting unnecessary stress on your body and vital organs, do yourself a favour and take a couple of moments to clean in between your teeth each day properly.
